Newfoundland is Canada's youngest (1949) and most easterly province. The island of Newfoundland and its mainland region of Labrador constitute the oldest European settlement in North America. Its history and sense of place make the region a culturally-unique destination. The vegetation, geological resources and animal species are some of the most varied in the world. Between 30 to 40 million seabirds visit Newfoundland & Labrador each year, including the handsome puffin.Over 22 species of whales live in the waters around the province (containing the world's largest concentration of humpback whales). The rustic, dramatic beauty of the region and coastline is increasingly popular as a tourist destination for visitors from England and the U.S. The St. John's harbor is also a stopping-off point for several cruise ship lines.
"New Foundland (& Labrador's) landscape and its animal inhabitants are
equally remarkable. As any local will tell you, this is the most blessedly
cursed union of land, sea, air and sky in creation. Come here once, and
you'll have a perpetual longing to return."

The Loring Freshwater Fund has acquired a 2-acre property near Spaniard's Bay on the Avalon Penninsula. Spaniard's Bay is a small village on Conception Bay on the Avalon Pennisula. It is approximately 1 hour from St. John's, just south of the town of Carbonear. The Spaniard's Bay Back Cove Road follows the coastline; the LFF property juts out into the bay. This mini-peninsula has an unrestricted view to the sea from the top of the lot. It is rare to find a property that is surrounded by ocean on 3 sides. The surface is grassland and contains a homestead foundation from the 18th century that is still intact. The mayor has asked LFF to offer the land to the town before seeking other buyers, since there were fossils discovered that summer on the eastern shore.
LFF anticipates that the lot can be sold for $150,000 within 5 years. Nearby oceanfront lots with water on one side are selling for $40,000.
