Loring Waterfront Property

Wine Harbour, Nova Scotia Canada

Gold in Wine Harbour 370 Acre Lot

The first recorded discovery of gold in Wine Harbour was in 1861. Stories tell of women chancing upon the precious metal while picking blueberries. They filled their pails with nuggets and covered them over with berries, to avoid having to share their newfound wealth. In time, people became curious as to why the women were picking so many berries. They followed the women to the fields, and their secret was revealed. Miners took a Nova Scotia record 42,100 ounces of gold until 1942.

Today, the road leading to the Loring property is still named Eureka Road although no one has panned for gold in the streams for many years.

The Loring property is on the wilderness west side of Wine Harbour while the east side holds a small colony of artists and cottages. The view looks past a few small islands to the open North Atlantic Ocean. The bay is sheltered enough to allow for small boats to move about safely.

Our 370 acre lot has 4600 feet of ocean frontage on the bay right along Eureka Road which dead-ends in our property. This could be subdivided into 100 lots or another option could be into fourteen 20 to 30 acre lots without any government OK required. Most of the cape is a remote government wildlife sanctuary. A lake is at the back of our property (see pictures) and shares the border with the wildlife sanctuary. Lot has half mile of lakefront.

The lot rises gradually from the water up to a height of 75 feet with stately evergreen trees covering 100% of the land. When I walked the shoreline, I could have reached into the crystal clear water for a bucketful of mussels for dinner. Local fisherman regularly hunt for mussels in the bay as the government has ruled the area shell fish safe for eating.
